  • Use the lunch box in the microwave oven without the lid not more than 2 minutes.
  • When you store the unused container, do not seal the lid. Leave a little space in between so that air can circulate. The reason is because, stale air can leave unpleasant smell. Another reason is, if left too long in your pantry when the temperature fluctuates, the air trapped in the container(Tupperware containers are air-tight, so air cannot escape!) will cause the lid to break over time.

Smell Removal Solutions

1 Hot Water

The use of hot water helps in expanding the plastic container to allow for dish detergent to get in and wipe out residual odors.   Fill sink with hot water and with 3 teaspoons of dish detergent and dunk the tupperware containers in mixture.  After leaving the containers to sit overnight return and rinse off to return to rinse off.

2 Vinegar

Pour one part white vinegar and 3 parts water within the tupperware container and seal lid.  Shake the tupperware and allow for it to sit overnight before returning and pouring the contents out.

3 Baking Soda

Place five teaspoons worth of baking soda within the the tupperware container, before closing the lid and shaking thoroughly.  This will cause the baking soda to cover the walls of the container for better absorption of unwanted odors.

4 Bleach

This substance works well at wiping out residual odors within a variety of plastics. Fill the sink with hot water and add a half cup of bleach within the mixture.  Submerge the tupperware within the solution and allow for it to site for 2-3 hours before returning to wash it off.

5 Crumpled Newspaper

Newspaper works well at absorbing odors within enclosed spaces.  Crumple up newspaper and stuff within the interior of the tupperware and close the lid.  Allow the tupperware to sit for 24-48 hours as the newspaper  slowly extracts the unwanted aroma from the plastic siding.  After this time has passed, throw newspaper away and enjoy freshened tupperware.

6 Vanilla Extract

Fill the tupperware half way up with water, and add 3 teaspoons of vanilla to the mix.  After closing the lid, give the tupperware container a good shake allowing the substance to cover the side of the tupperware.  Allow the tupperware to site for 5-8 hours before returning to pour the substance out and rinse the interior.  Much of the smelly odor will be wiped away and replaced by a freshened vanilla smell.
